The smallest sport utility vehicle, 2003 Escape is offered in only single body style, four-door wagon. Two engines are offered, a DOHC 2.0 liter I4 version and 3.0 liter V6 version.
I-4 engine can generate power up to 127 hp at 5400 rpm and torque of 135 lb ft at 4500 rpm, while the V6 engine can deliver 201 hp of power at 5900 rpm and torque of 196 lb ft at 4700 rpm. I-4 engine is mated to 5-speed manual transmission, while the V6 engine is paired to 4-speed automatic transmission.

Fuel Economy
As far as the fuel economy rates are concerned, with the I-4 engine, the SUV model can achieve 23 mpg in the city streets and 28 mpg on the highway roads, while it can achieve 18 and 23 mpg with the V6 engine. The major competitors to the 2003 Ford Escape model include Mazda Tribute, Subaru Forester and Honda CR-V.
