The Ford Escape is a compact crossover sport utility vehicle produced by Ford Motor Company, since 2000.
First Escape model was introduced in 2000 as 2001 model, and it was priced below Ford Explorer.
It is also known as Ford Maverick in Europe.
First Generation (2001-2007)
The initial Ford Escape model was built on the platform of CD2 from Ford, which in turn based on Mazda GF platform.

The first model of Ford Edge was released in North America as 2001 model.
The key features in the first generation Ford Escape model were terrific visibility, maneuverability and cargo room. On the other hand, control layout and noise were considered to be its main drawbacks.
It was offered as only wagon body style with four wheel drive, and optional front wheel drive.

The curb weight of the model was 3152 lbs. This compact CUV had the capacity to accommodate up to 5-passengers seamlessly.

Second Generation (2008-Present)
The second generation Ford Escape was debuted at Los Angeles International Auto Show in 2007. It was slightly redesigned for 2007, and then revamped once again in 2009.

2008 Ford Escape is the first model to feature pull drift steering compensation, which uses software to control the electronic power steering.
