The Ford Escape is a compact crossover sport utility vehicle produced by Ford Motor Company, since 2000. First model was introduced in 2000 as 2001 model and it is priced below Ford Explorer. It is also called as Ford Maverick in Europe.

First Generation (2001-2007)

The initial Ford Escape model was built on the platform of CD2 from Ford, which in turn based on Mazda GF platform. The first model of Ford Edge was released in North America as 2001 model.

The key features in the first generation Ford Escape model were visibility, maneuverability and cargo room. On the other hand, control layout and noise were treated as main drawbacks.

It was offered as only wagon body style with four wheel drive or in front wheel drive. As far as the dimensions of the model were concerned, it had the wheel base of 108.1 inches, length of 173.0 inches, width of 70.1 inches and height of 69.1 inches. The curb weight of the model was 3152 lbs. The compact crossover SUV had the seating capacity to accomodate up to 5-passengers.

Second Generation (2008-Present)

The second generation Ford Escape was debuted at Los Angeles International Auto Show in 2007. It is slightly redesigned for 2007 and in 2009. The 2008 Ford Escape is the first model to feature pull drift steering compensation, which uses software to control the electronic power steering.

The standard engine to the current generation Ford Escape model include a 2.5 liter DOHC I-4 version that delivers 171 hp of power at 6000 rpm and torque of 171 lb ft at 4500 rpm. It is mated to standard 5-speed manual transmission.
